KaveLight in Claude and ChatGPT

Connector address: https://mcp.kavelight.com/mcp

Ask Claude or ChatGPT to light the set, move the camera or build a room, and it happens in KaveLight on your Mac. The assistant can read your open project, look through the camera, meter a face, place real fixtures and aim them, frame a shot, and build a set from walls, doors, cast and props. Every change it makes is one undo step in KaveLight.

1. Before you start

  • KaveLight for Mac, the version with Controls › AI Assistants, open and signed in.
  • AI Assistants is on by default. To check, open KaveLight › Controls… › AI Assistants: the status is green when it’s connected. Nothing reaches your Mac until you add KaveLight in Claude or ChatGPT and sign in there.
  • A Claude account on any plan (free accounts can add one custom connector), or a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu account. In ChatGPT, this works in the browser.

2. Add KaveLight to Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize › Connectors, then Add › Add custom connector.
  2. Name it KaveLight and paste the address https://mcp.kavelight.com/mcp. Click Continue, keep Sign in now, and click Add.
  3. Sign in with your KaveLight account and approve the request.
  4. In a chat, make sure KaveLight is switched on in the + › Connectors menu, then ask away.

3. Add KaveLight to ChatGPT

Until KaveLight is listed in ChatGPT’s app directory, adding it takes ChatGPT’s Developer mode, which needs a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plan and works in the browser.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings › Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Open Plugins, click + › Create app › Create MCP App, name it KaveLight and paste the address.
  3. Keep OAuth. Under Advanced OAuth settings, set the registration method to Dynamic Client Registration.
  4. Tick I understand and want to continue, click Create, then sign in with your KaveLight account and approve.
  5. In a chat, pick KaveLight from the + menu, then ask away.

4. Things to ask

  • “What’s in my scene?” or “Show me the shot.”
  • “Put a 4-foot Kino Flo camera left of the actor and aim it at her face.”
  • “The key is too hot. Bring it down a stop.”
  • “Frame a medium close-up on him with a 50 mm lens.”
  • “Build a 4 × 5 m bedroom with a window on the north wall.”

5. Safety and control

  • The assistant sees only the projects you have open in KaveLight, and only while KaveLight is running and AI Assistants is on.
  • Every change is one step in Edit › Undo (⌘Z).
  • Deleting objects and saving the project ask for your approval first. Claude also asks before other tools until you choose “Always allow”.
  • Requests and answers pass through our connector server as they happen, and it doesn’t store them (an answer that arrives after your assistant stopped waiting is kept for up to three minutes, so a retry doesn’t repeat the work). See the Privacy Policy.

6. If something doesn’t work

  • “KaveLight isn’t connected”: open KaveLight on your Mac, check it’s signed in to the same account, and that Controls › AI Assistants shows Connected.
  • “Another of your Macs has the connection”: the connector talks to one Mac at a time. Click Use This Mac on the Mac you’re working on.
  • The assistant says it’s still working: big jobs (a set that’s still downloading, a heavy render) can take longer than the chat will wait. Ask it to try the same thing again; it picks up the finished result instead of doing the work twice.

7. Disconnect

Switch AI Assistants off in KaveLight (Controls › AI Assistants) to cut the connection at once, or remove KaveLight from Claude’s connectors or ChatGPT’s plugins.
